In what has been two days of growing fascination over Nicolas Sarkozy's new wife Carla Sarkozy by the media in the UK, Nicolas Sarkozy seized the opportunity to call for a new "entente amicale" between the two countries over issues such as Afghanistan and an EU military force.

Divisions in the EU over passenger name records

There are deep divisions among the EU countries over proposals for the use of passenger name records with some countries such as Spain and Italy calling these proposals an invasion of privacy while others such as the UK, a necessity to fight terrorism and global crime.
