More bloodshed in Gaza as the tradition of violence begets violence continues

Israeli air strikes and rocket attacks from Palestinians in Gaza led to the killing of a six-month old Palestinian baby and a 47-year old Israeli. This sea of violence continues within a frustatingly divided and powerless international community.

Strong euro leads to a rise in tourism in America

The euro is in a wealthy condition in comparison to a rattled dollar. This relative euro stability is leading to a rise in European tourists visiting America. There was more bad news for America's economy as more talks were held by US finance experts over worries about their economy.

Greek-Cypriots elected Demetris Christofias as their new president. The Communist leader has already agreed to start talks with the Turkish north to play down any fears that he was against reuniting the island. However, many international observers will be watching Christofias closely following his rejection of the UN reunification plan back in 2004.

Vladimir Putin sent Dimitry Medvedev to Belgrade today in support of Serbia's stance towards Kosovo and in refusal to accept the US and the EU's recoginition of Kosovo's independence. Many observers within Russia now fear the possible domino effect which Kosovo might have within the rest of the world where hotspots still exist.

Hillary tries to revert the Obamania ahead of the crucial March 4 primaries in Ohio and Texas.

Hillary Clinton lambasted fellow Democrat and presidential candidate Barack Obama, for distributing alleged misinformed leaflets about her health care plan.

Hillary Clinton is now regarded as being behind in the latest polls and needs to gain victory in the March primaries if she is to break Barack Obama's momentum. In response, Barack Obama stated that the information distributed in his leaflets are true to form.

Greek-Cypriots to elect a new president

In a race between Demetris Christafias who voted against a UN plan in 2004 to reunite the islands and Ionnis Kasoulides who voted in favour of a reunification plan in 2004, the Greek-Cypriots are not just voting for their new president but for their future.

Cyprus has been a member of the EU since 2004 but reunification is a condition set by Greek-Cypriots for Turkey becoming a member of the EU.

From one Castro to another?

Cuba's National Assembly is expected to vote for Fidel Castro's 76-year old brother Raul, as Cuba's new ruling president today. This decision is seen as likely to provoke a mixed reaction from Cubans as well as from the international world with Raul policies as stand-in president showing signs of change but also of an extension of Fidel's legacy.
